Christmas often springs some interesting books on us!

So far I have been given one, by Jon Ronson, Out of the ordinary - true tales of everyday craziness. Part of the blurb on the back says “trying to understand why hundreds of apparently ordinary people would suddenly start speaking in tongues in a hut in kidderminster, he demonstrates repeatedly how we all succomb to deeply irrational beliefs that grow to inform our everyday existance”

Should be fun!

What did everyone else get

I was told as a child that one of my mums male friends had pulled the plug out of the sea as the tide had gone out! I can still remember feeling quite awestruck by this idea!!

My dad told me he and his brother played for spurs. I told the whole class and our teacher went to get the headteacher to tell her.

The boys all called me liar…. I was actually just a very sweet child who believed everything her parents said *wide eyes innocent look* (in my admittedly weak defence my dad did used to go out every saturday afternoon and come back covered in mud..he just played rubgy… and was never on TV or featured on football stickers)

And due to the embarrasment most Spurs players tell their children that they play rugby on Saturdays! Eye-wink

Thu, 04/01/2007 - 12:29 :: To go back to the original

To go back to the original question I got three books - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince which I’ve read before but didn’t have, On Beauty by Zadie Smith - haven’t read any of hers so should be interesting, and The Secret River by Kate Grenville - this was a shot in the dark from my Mum because it sounded good from the sleeve note!

I KNOW! In fact when it was on my amazon wish list my comment was - ‘Pegg and Wright - pure genius!’

I especially like the homage-o-meter you can put on the DVDs which show up the pop culture references….

The one where they go paintballing has a brill ‘death’ scene and the subtitle says ‘every war film….EVER’ Smiling

If we’re talking DVD series then there’s none better than Dawson’s Creek - LEGENDARY!!

I just have series 6 left to purchase then my collection is complete.

And yes Katie Holmes would be in my laminated top five - Tom Cruise doesn’t deserve her.
