Here’s an idea which I’ve had for a while.
We choose a Sunday, and everyone brings stuff they don’t want to church. It goes on some tables somewhere. People then take anything they want.
I’m talking about good quality stuff - perhaps unwanted Christmas presents - rather than tatty old jumble. (We’d have to make sure none of the unwanted presents were from each other, though - could cause massive rows!)
The problem, of course, is who takes away what’s left at the end of the day.
As a vicarage child, I loved having all the jumble sale/bazaar stuff brought to my house to store, because I could look through it all in advance and know where the good stuff would be! (And sometimes - I admit - pinch the good stuff and put a couple of quid in the float …:O)
But we wouldn’t want to fill up Mark and Kate’s spare room with our junk, so we’d have to figure out some way of taking the leftovers to a charity shop. Or perhaps several charity shops - Oxfam has great music and book shops in Ealing, as well as their regular shop.
Anyone up for this idea? Great for spring cleaning. I would be happy to coordinate if The Powers That Be gave the OK.

I figure that is just goods that you want to get rid of and not children, spouses and pets?
Sorry to disappoint you Lady M.

I think it sounds like a great idea.. although for authenticity it should really be on a Saturday
I’d be happy to take some left overs home and then drop them in to scope on my way to work one morning (although if heavy will need somene to help me carry).

Not a bad idea at all - i can off-load excess books. My best friend manages an Oxfam book store on Glouster Road - much better than the ealing branch!
Huge idea Gill. Brilliant!
At the Vale Estate in their lovely new Community Centre a group of Sure Start parents are going to club together soon to have a jumble sale where you can rent a table and sell stuff. We could offload stuff, have a table and give them the profits (which would go to their Parent Fund which is controlled by the Parents to fund educational and fun trips etc) or something if that idea grabs anyone.
For anyone that doesn’t know, Sure Start is a national charity for families with children under 4 in the most deprived areas of the country that does groups and services for them to give the children a ‘sure start’ to counteract their deprivation in some way. I’m Secretary of the Acton one (as I do live in the deprived area).
