New Wine

New Wine is perhaps best known for its summer festivals that attract nearly 20,000 people each year to The Royal Bath and Wells showground in Somerset. These are great events that bring together Christians from across the UK as well as abroad to celebrate God’s goodness, to learn through internationally acclaimed speakers and to attend seminars on practical Christianity. It is also a great opportunity for fun, food and fellowship. Such is the popularity of these events that 2005 saw the birth of a New Wine event in Harrogate along the same lines as the Somerset ones.

Oak Tree has had links with New Wine for several years and our vicar Mark is quite involved with some of their work. One of the primary focuses of the ministry is to support church leaders and local churches in the work of seeing the Kingdom of God grow. Mark sometimes helps lead retreats for leaders and also speaks at regional training days. He also enjoys leading weekends for other churches and does so quite often both in the UK and abroad. Whenever possible he likes to take a team from Oak Tree with him on ministry trips. These ministry trips are a great opportunity for members at Oak Tree to grow in faith and to give away something of that which God has given them. It is also part of the vision of New Wine to help leaders network with each other in order to give mutual support as well as develop unity among churches. New Wine has done similar work in many nations including among others Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong, Holland, Sweden, Finland and Norway.
