I was offered a book for 1p in Shepherds Bush a few days ago. Got one, after a suspicious discussion with the girl who was handing them out. I asked her a few questions following my quick look at the book, such as “what religion is the book about?”. Her answers were evasive to say the least. I then scutinized the book for several minutes, before an appointment and when I got home scutinized it more. It had all the signs of a straight forward novel with a religious overtone (i.e. the da vinci code style book).I was talking to my flatmate about it and still suspiciously looking for the hidden meaning in the book, when I found a page about 10 pages before the end advertising the Jesuschristians and giving a website. My gut reaction is that they are a cult recruiting and using free (or extremely cheap) novels out as part of their recruiting strategy. Interestingly the only thing they said in the advert was that the Jesuschristians believe they do not have to work, however, the girl who was handing them out was working and the person who wrote the book must have been working. Anyone else heard about them??
