Tamsin Omond, the Christian Coordinator of the Stop Heathrow Expansion Coalition asked me to post information about their planned protest in May.

SATURDAY MAY 31st ‘Make a NOise’.

Come to the Carnival and say NO to expansion at Heathrow. (Organised by the ‘Stop Heathrow Expansion Coalition.’)

What?

There is strong opposition to the expansion of Heathrow. We are a growing movement and we will be heard. We are from different walks of life but our aim is the same.

United we say: NO to plans for expansion at Heathrow. Let’s make a NOise. Let’s have a carnival and give Londoners an event to be proud of. Let’s create the biggest human ‘NO’ ever seen.

The carnival begins at Hatton Cross on the Piccadilly line. We will then walk around the perimeter fence of Heathrow before our arrival in the village of Sipson. If expansion is given the go-ahead this village: its homes, the local school, their playing fields will be tarmaced over, demolished so that even more planes can take off and land.

The ‘Make a Noise’ carnival is a day out for all the family, fun for the kids and your chance to say ‘NO’. It will end with a photograph impossible to ignore: the Guinness Book of Records will record us as the biggest ever human ‘NO’.

Make history: come together to protect our children’s future.

Why? We’ve had enough of ill health, relentless noise and BAA’s false promises. Now we know that aviation is the fastest growing cause of climate change. We cannot ignore the statistics that have transformed Heathrow into the line in the sand in the fight against climate change. The government is expected to announce proposals for the expansion of Heathrow this summer. We have a real opportunity to act responsibly. Let’s get this government to live up to its climate change commitments and make real emission reductions. The critical moment has come, climate change is happening NOW.

Join the carnival and put public pressure on a government that refuses to lead.

How? From local resident to life time ‘green’, from school children to local businesses, there are thousands who will join this event and show that opposition to Heathrow’s expansion cannot be ignored. Be one of them. Make a NOise.

Bring an MP: add their voice to the NOise. Local communities can make the difference. Win on noise, win on pollution, and win on climate change. Win the fight to stop Heathrow.

Demonstrate your opposition. The Stop Heathrow Expansion Coalition appeal to you and your organisation to support and contribute to this event in all of the ways that you can:

  • Encourage your members to come to the carnival.
  • Publicise the event through your organisation’s communications and networks.
  • Create a block within the carnival to represent your organisation.
  • Add your logo to our website and let us link our website with yours.
