Market CHURCH

Hello Marketeers

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8467833.stm

Last week the BBC ran an article on the history of great British confectioners and I was interested to read that many of the firms were started by Quakers.

The article said:

The move into chocolate began with cocoa drinks in the 19th Century as a reaction against the perceived misery and deprivation caused by alcohol, says Quaker historian Helen Rowlands.

“Quakers and other non-conformists at the time were concerned about levels of alcohol misuse in the population at large, they were part of the temperance movement.

“Cocoa was a way of providing cheap and available drink. It was healthy because you had to boil the water to make it when they didn’t have good water supplies.”

As you hand out your next Hot Chocolate at the market – you can think of the legacy Hot Chocolate has in reaching out to the poor!!

Bish’s macbook is poorly this week whilst he is at Ridley – so he has asked me to email out for him this week.

This Saturday at the market we are only doing the morning shift because of Helping Hands and setting up the 24/7 Prayer Room. Bish says one or two volunteers would be very welcome!

A reminder that if you have anything for the Prayer Room – or if you want to help set up our creative boiler room of prayer – we will be in 216 from 10am – 3pm this Saturday.

Thanks for all you are and do,

Ruthx

Market CHURCH

Hello Marketeers

When you stand on the mount you are praying.

I am here, help me be a blessing.
This person has some issues, please help them be whole.
This person is homeless I think, please provide a home for them.
This person has never spoken to a Christian, would you be sweet to them.
This person who has never been to church, can I invite them?
I’m cold, keep me warm.
I’m tired, sustain me!

As we start back this new year I want to encourage everyone to be praying that little bit more on the market.
As we get ready to pray 24-7 the first week of Feb let’s also refresh Oaktree ministries with more prayer.
As part of the stall this week we will have “prayer request cards” that people can fill out. They then will go into the prayer room to be prayed for during our week of 24-7 prayer.

THIS WEEK: 3 spaces 10am-12noon and 2 spaces 12noon-2pm

PLEASE DO BOOK IN FOR THE REST OF THE TERM TOO… have you got time you can give?

God bless your prayer life.

LOOK! There’s an advent calendar in an Acton window!

216Advent1

Once upon a time there was a Christmas message…

We believe there still is a deeply true, compellingly relevant, infectiously kind and lovingly humble message that is behind Christmas. Every three days or so a new window at 216 the High Street, Acton will be opened to show the next part of a contemporary telling of the Christmas story. This is a group of artists, who are part of our church community, and their interpretation of the events leading to the birth of Jesus Christ. We believe that our world is full of negative stereotypes and labels, maybe you have been told you fit one of those. Through all of this we believe Jesus is hope, and more than that, God has hope in you.

Come and celebrate Christmas with us as a church:

Acton Market: 11-3pm on the 19th December

Carol Service: Twyford School, Uxbridge Road 4.30pm on the 20th December

Why those windows?

Our church (explore the website to learn more about who we are and why we’re here) has been in and around Acton for 16 years. In 2010 we will be moving into and taking on 216 the High Street Acton. We are committed to serving and growing in the diversity that is Acton. Our hope is that this building will allow us to bless, work and be open to every person in W3 and beyond!

Watch this site for our move in date and then come and visit us!

Once upon a time there was a Christmas message… and it is still for you.

If you’d like to read more about the creative process look at Thalie’s Website.

Market CHURCH

Hello Marketeers

market
Only two more Market Saturdays of 2009 to go!

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has given so generously of their time to the Market stall in 2009.

It really wouldn’t have happened without you. I really value you, thank you!

This week there are spaces that need filling 2-4 and one from 12-2… can you spare the time if you haven’t signed up already?

Merry Christmas!

I pray you will find time this Christmas
To relax and unwind
To feel the thanks for your service this year
To aspire to the call of your God
To know the heart of your Father
To hear the call of Jesus
And to be filled with the food of the Spirit.
